I work principally in pencil, watercolour and gouache.
I am always striving for a dynamic realism and vibrancy in my work. My aim is to re-examine what we perceive to be ordinary and transform it into the extraordinary.
Trained as a designer, design is fundamental to my pieces. I want to create that ‘wow’ factor using heightened realism in a powerful 3-dimensional way. I am constantly exploring new and exciting ways of portraying subjects, extracting and isolating the essential details and revealing its enduring fascination.

I graduated in 1991 with a Degree in Interior Design from Edinburgh Napier University and subsequently worked for many years as a senior designer for a contemporary design company.
Drawing and painting for me has always been a passion and I continued to further my art studies at Edinburgh College of Art before concentrating on Botanical pieces. Why Botanical Art? Well to be honest I never really thought about specialising in this form of Art but when the opportunity arose in 2007 to study a new Diploma in Botanical Illustration at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh I decided to give it a go. It was to be an 'instinctive' choice as I have always been 'drawn' to nature and I particularly love working in fine detail.
I graduated with Distinction in 2009 &
then went onto receive an RHS Gold
Medal for a collection of 8 Vegetable
paintings in March 2010. Several
paintings are now in the RHS Lindley
Library Collection and others are in
private collections. I was made an
Associate with the SBA - Society of
Botanical Artists in 2011.
