Clare McGhee

Trained as an Interior Designer and working for many years as Senior Designer for a contemporary furniture design company, Clare now draws on her wealth of experience producing highly detailed and visually dynamic works of art.

Drawing and painting has always been a passion for Clare and through her love and affinity of the Natural world she illustrates its’ beguiling beauty and fascination in extraordinary detail and complexity. Exploring everyday subjects we normally take for granted, she compels us to re-examine what we perceive as ordinary, focusing our attention on their extraordinary qualities in a powerful and captivating way.

Using traditional painting methods combined with contemporary graphic design techniques and heightened realism her work has an immediacy and dramatic quality which makes it so compelling. Always striving to push the boundaries, particularly in Botanical Art, Clare is constantly exploring new and innovative working methods. She works mainly in gouache, a medium renown for it's vibrancy which brings a vivid luminosity to her pieces. She has also more recently started working on Dibond Aluminium panels, a new material that allows her work to be hung unframed adding to the overall contemporary quality of her paintings.

Clare currently lives in Edinburgh and her work is now owned by the RHS with several pieces held in the RHS Lindley Library Collection and the Hunt Institute in Pittsburgh USA as well as in private collections in the UK and USA.
